A Book – A Best Friend

From past, as an ape to here and now, as sophisticated humans. We have always ruled the earth. Humans developed because of their advanced brain patterns. They realized that knowledge helps in growing further. Gradually knowledge was started to be documented. And thus the basis of books was formed.
Books cover every aspect of our lives. We start our relationship with books at a very early stage. When we were toddlers, we start scribing on books and start writing about our friendship. The growing years brought us more close to each other. They had different names, someone was called science, some mathematics and some social studies or history or geography, and some were simple Story Books. I used to carry them with me to the school. I always loved to keep them neat & clean and wrapped in special plastic coated covers. Though my friends and classmates mocked me of this habit, I never gave them a heed.
At the end of each academic year, my books were intact and almost new. I always found someone needy to give these special friends of mine to a needy person, but I took a solemn pledge from them about keeping them intact and in good condition. These needy people never disappoint me.
School years passed, new college life bought new friends. But this time I choose them, however the habit to keep them covered was gone with the growing age. Next seven to eight years of my life was surrounded by these book friends of mine. They helped me like a true companion, I scored in every examination.
Then begun a new phase of life, a phase when it was time for me to put into application every knowledge I had gained from these friends in my life. During the early stages of this phase I lost touch with my friends. They never complained, they just remained in their shelves.
Honestly, I missed them, their words were guidance for me, may be simple Children Story Books I was reading to my kids or some heavy management book full of jargons and terms, they always taught me important lessons of life.
Today, at the middle stage of life, I still seek their guidance. They are my solace during every situation. Reading story books always help me broaden my imagination and bring back the child in me. A factual book based on history makes me look at these great heroes and leaders for inspiration. Spiritual books aid me in drawing the most positive things out of life. I rather call them the twisted mythological books (which I like) are an eye opener for me. Management books, though I do not have much affection towards them, but yet they are important to excel in professional life.
Books may be just a knowledge bank for many, but for me they are my best friends. Modern day authors and classic story tellers have so many ways to narrate life, various stories to touch your heart, that today I cannot imagine a world without books. They are and they will always be my best friend, and hope to write a book myself one day.
